Facing Fear & Playing Big Part I

Did you catch the recent webinar? I created a training video especially for those of you with chronic mystery illnesses that seem to baffle mainstream medicine practitioners (and holistic practitioners, too, for that matter!). In this training I shared the mind/body tools that worked for me and WHY they finally made a significant difference in my health and wellbeing. I was coaching a client just this week who was hesitant to embark on a wellness program that had worked really well for her 8 years ago. She was afraid that this time the path wouldn’t be as easy and she wouldn’t see the same wonderful results if she did it again. Her mind held onto and enhanced the memories of how easy and perfect it all worked out for her back then. She didn’t want to risk being disappointed in the results this time.

She was setting expectations for herself that she was afraid she couldn’t meet, so it was easier to simply stay put and continue to suffer. Fear comes in many forms - fear of failure, fear of not being perfect, fear that it won’t be easy, fear of the unknown… Unfortunately, nothing changes if we aren’t willing to face those fears and play big.

This ability to play big starts with revising the scary stories in our heads. What if this time around the results could be even better? What if her wellness program will, in fact, be easier this time since she’s done it before? What if she could actually make significant enough changes in her brain (i.e. that “neuroplasticity” topic I discussed in the webinar) that this time the benefits stick with her for the long haul?

There’ s a good bit of work involved in “rewiring the brain”, and that’s why I want to work with you for several months to help you solidify these new ways of thinking and being. But, for today you can begin to take charge of your health simply by watching your fearful thoughts and considering other ways of viewing the situation. NO JUDGEMENT. NO MENTAL BATTLE. Just awareness and a willingness to see your thoughts from another angle.
