Cacao Exploration Workshop

It wasn’t long after becoming isolated from one another in 2020 that many of us began to feel a deep longing for connection. That period of relative quiet left me with both a yearning to enjoy the company of others again and a gentle nudge to reconnect with nature. Sacred cacao became my conduit to both.

Cacao is more than chocolate, “she” is love. The spirit of cacao carries with her an intelligence that we cannot perceive with the mind. We sense her intuitively in our hearts as she helps us to experience the magic of the Divine.

Only from the heart can you touch the sky.

My first experience with ceremonial cacao was very emotional. I joined an online circle with dozens of strangers, and as I hid behind my Zoom profile picture, the tears began to pour. The release was surprising and strangely beautiful. Several days later, I tried it again and found myself dancing and singing my way through Saturday morning chores with a lightness in my heart that I hadn’t felt in years.

I was hooked. It wasn’t long before I sought out teachers who work directly with Mayan and Aztec elders to learn as much as I could about this transformational plant and the Central and South American cultures that foster it.

I’ve enjoyed leading small groups of women through my Ritual: Self-Care & Cacao program in 2021 and have continued this magical program 1-2 times per year. This summer I am opening a nature-enveloped healing space where I will be hosting collaborative cacao circles with sound healers, artists, yoga instructors, and other teachers. The sky’s the limit!

If your interest has been piqued, and you would like to learn more about ceremonial cacao, then this workshop is for you!

Chocolate comes from cacao,
which comes from a tree.
That makes it a plant.
Chocolate is salad.

Bad news: Chocolate isn't salad 😢
Good news: Ceremonial-grade cacao is a superfood!

Without getting into too much detail (as growing and production are several posts of their own!), the heirloom Criollo and Arriba Nacional strains of cacao that I drink and share have more antioxidants than most known food sources and, chemically speaking, are some of the most complex foods found in nature. With over 300 nutrients, including magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, copper, iron, calcium, B vitamins, iron, omega-6, vitamin C, chromium, sulfur, and zinc, cacao truly nourishes (and detoxifies) my physical body.

*caveat: These benefits are only obtained when cacao is consumed in its pure form, either as beans or as dark chocolate ground at low temperatures with minimal processing, i.e., the cacao butter is not stripped from the cacao powder.

Now we're getting a little closer to rivaling the benefits of salad!
